Selangor govt to collaborate with Health Ministry to curb dengue

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is committed to cooperate with the Health Ministry to contain the spread of dengue fever in the state and finding the best solutions in fighting the menace.

Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the collaboration is needed following a steep increase of dengue fever cases in the state even though various steps had been taken to overcome the outbreak.

"According to the Health Ministry's report, Selangor used to record about 1,000 cases a week but this has increased to 1,600 cases a week with the Petaling district reported to critical where dengue cases are concerned," he told reporters after attending an anti-dengue operation in Section 6, here, today.

As a proactive prevention measure, the state government had instructed local authorities to implement drainage maintenance work on weekly basis, in ensuring the drainage system was free from any Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, Azmin said.

"Tenants of premises will also be fines unlike previously where only the premises owners were fined if their buildings were found to be Aedes mosquito breeding grounds," he said.

Stern action had to be taken to ensure all parties played they part in checking the outbreak because the most common Aedes mosquito breeding grounds were inside houses, he added. – Bernama
