HAVING already unveiled its second SMART Library in Perlis recently, Samsung presented the nation with its first-of-its-kind Samsung SMART Classroom.
EFFICIENT CONCEPT
The recently launched concept which is applied in Sekolah Kebangsaan Ayer Lanas in Jeli, Kelantan, is aimed at enhancing the aspect of learning by making use of technology. Through the Samsung SMART Classroom, students will have the chance to experience a more interactive learning process. They will be able to source information from customised content and applications for better interaction, which fundamentally is expected to enhance the education performance of primary-going students, in and out of school.
In line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025, which is aimed at enhancing the quality of learning, at the same time pave the way for a more effective and customised learning method in schools, the SMART Classroom concept is also expected to help schools meet the technological demands and create a unique interactive learning environment. These, at the same time, are targeted to bridge the gap between Malaysia's rural and urban schools.
INTEGRATED LEARNING
Four core subjects, namely English, Bahasa Melayu, Mathematics and Science, will be offered to students from Standard 1 to 6. Students will gain easy access to digitised learning materials and obtain information from secured and monitored sources through Samsung devices. They will also be able to interact with the teachers who will facilitate their progress. Teachers can supervise and monitor the development of individual students through the learning exercises and provide additional and targeted coaching where necessary.
The educational content is customised to complement the current national school syllabus. It is designed in such a way that is relevant, engaging and interactive, so as to appeal to the interest of the student.
Kelantan State Education Department director Hussain Awang said, "The Samsung SMART Classroom is an ideal platform for our students to learn in an interactive digital environment. Especially with the capability to monitor students' individual progress. We look forward to seeing great improvement and positive academic performance in this school."
ENHANCED DEVELOPMENT
Sekolah Kebangsaan Ayer Lanas is the first school in the region and throughout Malaysia to adopt the Samsung SMART Classroom concept. Samsung Malaysia Electronics director of corporate affairs Datuk Roh Jae Yeol shared that this school was selected due to its location in Jeli, to help minimise the digital divide between urban schools and those in underserved areas. "We look forward to working with more schools in other areas to further extend the reach of technology in the nation's classrooms," he added.
Teachers will be put through a training process using the "train the trainer" programme which leverages on the latest innovations from Samsung. They will be trained to access and utilise the customised educational content and how to use the teaching materials. Besides being able to guide students in their lessons using the technology, the teachers will also be able to sharpen their own ICT skills.
The Samsung SMART Classroom is part of the Samsung Global Corporate Citizenship initiative that employs Samsung technology and expertise for the betterment of local communities. It also represents the company's efforts in the area of education and has already made a difference in almost 400 schools in 72 countries, worldwide.
