Contractor robbed of RM173,000

    IPOH: Three men armed with a hammer and two parangs robbed a contractor of RM173,000 in Gunung Rapat today.
    In the 12 noon incident, the victim and his wife who had just deposited RM3,000 in a bank, were on their way to another bank to deposit RM173,000 when a white Toyota Vios with four men overtook and blocked them at Laluan Gunung Rapat 1.
    Three men wearing masks and armed with the weapons, smashed the windows of the driver and passenger seats.
    Ipoh City deputy police chief, Supt Ahmad Termizi Abdul Haq said one of the men forced the couple to come out of their car.
    However the victims could not alight as they had their seat belts strapped on.
    "One of them tried to cut the belt and seize the sling bag containing the money but the contractor fought back."
    The victim was forced to give the bag when the robber threatened to slash him.
    "The robbers fled in the Toyota Vios in the direction of Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah," he added.
    According to Ahmad Termizi, this is the first time that such a robbery has occurred in the area.
    "We are investigating whether the car was reported stolen."
