Budget hotel operators must apply for conditional license

KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall has ordered all budget hotels to apply for a conditional license to start its operations.
The conditional license, a pilot project, is one which the premise operator has to obtain and adhere to on terms and conditions stipulated for him/her to comply with within a period of six months failing which the outlet will be shut down. This is besides the premise license issued to businesses.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the license must be obtained prior to the operator commencing his business.
He said the move to have the license will be extended to other businesses within the city, Putrajaya and Labuan which falls under the federal territories.
Speaking to the press after presenting premise licenses to 78 budget hotels representatives here, he expressed hope that the project will kick-off well with businesses complying to the rules and regulations while increasing their productivity to boost the tourism sector.
He said the conditional license costs between RM900 to RM1,000 plus according to the size of the hotel.
"DBKL personnel will come to inspect the premises once the application is made. " he said.
He warned those who did not adhere to the new condition in making the application would see their budget hotels being closed down by them.
"If you can't make the application due to reasons then come to us immediately," he said while advising the operators to apply it themselves and to cease using a "middleman" to make the application.
