PETALING JAYA: One Utama, one of Asia's biggest shopping mall celebrates the festivity displaying "Choy San Yeh" (God of Fortune) as the theme for Chinese New Year 2015.
In line with the theme, many shop owners in the mall set up booths displaying festive goods that will bring them fortune and also items for the festivity.
Although the shop owners themselves are praying for a brisk sale, they told theSun it may be difficult with many festive revellers being thrifty in their spending due to hike in prices of goods.
Elle's assistant supervisor, Hasmida, 23 said despite them having many competitors in the mall, they started on 20 Jan their sale of goods with lucrative discounts to attract more customers.
"The business only grows during the weekends while on the weekdays, not really," she told theSun.
When asked if the GST will cause price increase, she replied everything will remain the same for now.
The person-in-charge of Cherrie Lee, Theresa Ooi, 60 said they have set booths to sell "Cheong Sam" with a 10% discount thrown in and an additional 10% discount for the OneCard user, although she moans that business this year on the overall has been bad.
Oriental Art Express owner, Julie Kim, 60, said she loves sourcing her products yearly at overseas, mainly in China, to search for the best items she could get for her customers.
"You know, Chinese are superstitious, this year's best selling item at the shop is the 'Feng Shui' collection for the 12 zodiac signs," she added.
