PAS: Sirul will speak to Malaysian media on Monday

KUALA LUMPUR: Former police commando Sirul Azhar Omar will speak to the Malaysian media on Monday in a teleconference organised by PAS.
The party's Information Chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said Sirul had personally contacted him and agreed to the teleconference in which he is expected to answer questions regarding the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu on Oct 18, 2006.
"The 15 minutes teleconference is scheduled at 11.30am (Monday, Feb 23), and he (Sirul) has agreed to communicate with all media as it is not fair if he only talks to one or two media (organisations)," Mahfuz told the media at PAS headquarters here today.
Sirul who is currently under detention in Queensland by the immigration authorities, has also agreed to invite local and foreign media to Australia for a face to face media conference with him.
"We are waiting for the right time, when he (Sirul) is ready; he will inform me to invite the media to meet him at his detention centre in Australia," Mahfuz said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak dismissed claims by Sirul that he was "under orders" to commit the murder as "total rubbish".
Mahfuz said instead of coming up with such a questionable statement, the prime minister should order for the case to be reopened and investigated.
He said there is a probability that Sirul has the courage to make the disclosure now, because being in Australia, he cannot be pressured by Malaysian authorities.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said on Thursday that police will not reopen the case based on Sirul's claims, as it was only hearsay.
Mahfuz took Khalid to task for his statement, saying: " He (Khalid) said Sirul's statement is not sufficient for them to start an investigation… If it's not sufficient, then they need to investigate! Only then will they get sufficient evidence," he said.
