Fabulous February Fiesta kicks off in Penang

GEORGE TOWN : In conjunction with the Visit Penang Year 2015 , the Fabulous February Fiesta kicked off today with the soft launch of the Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
In his speech at the launch today, State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said the event is a perfect way to kick start Visit Penang Year 2015.
"It's a perfect marker because like the hot air balloon itself ,this year of festivals is set to mesmerise and remain memorable, which is what we aim to achieve", he said.
There will be 15 hot air balloons at the two-day event (Feb 21 to 22) from 6am to 9pm at Padang Polo. There will also be a free-flying balloon show at 7.30am.
On both days, three tethered balloons will be open for rides to the public at RM25 while RM5 will be charged for a cold inflation balloon.
According to Penang Global Tourism (PGT) Chief Executive Officer Ooi Chok Yan , three uniquely shaped balloons is set to be the centre of attraction during the two-day event.
"This three specially shaped Trump, Darth Vader and Humpty Dumpty balloons will be on display. So watch out for the excitement", he told reporters when met after the soft launch.
Several invited guest who got the chance to experience the tethered balloon ride spoke to theSun about their experience.
Unit trust consultant , Ong Wai Yeong, 35, who came with his daughter and wife said the event would help boost tourism in the state.
He added that it was the first time he and his family experienced a hot air balloon ride.
"It was my first time experience , although I am afraid of heights, the experience was wonderful and I feel safe riding it," he said.
Another guest at the soft launching , Ilzam Illiya 20, expressed his delight after experiencing his first hot air balloon ride.
"It was exciting. I will try again during the fiesta tomorrow", he said.
The inaugural event is organised by PGT and supported by the Penang state government with the cooperation of the Penang Island Municipal Council.
