GEORGE TOWN: A holiday outing for a family from Johor turned into a tragedy after a 12-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a hotel in Tanjung Bungah today.
In the 10.30am incident, Ong Jing Jie was found drowned at the pool when he was with his parents at the adult swimming pool.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridaltrash Wahid confirmed the incident took place and said a lifeguard on duty had half-an-hour before the incident warned the family not to bring the boy to the adult pool.
He, however, said the family did not heed the advice.
"The body has been sent to Penang Hospital for post-mortem, " he told the media in a brief statement.
The case has been classified as sudden death and no foul play is suspected.
