KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took a swipe at MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel for not keeping to his words to solve the party's political crisis.
"As a leader, he should keep to his word, and not turn around and listen to his followers," he said.
He added that the directive issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to MIC to conduct fresh elections is in accordance with the party's constitution and law.
Commenting on MIC's move to sue RoS, he said Palanivel should adhere to the directive to solve the matter.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno vice-president, said Palanivel and his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, had met with Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak twice, and agreed with the holding of fresh elections.
"He should explain to his followers on what has been agreed upon. But when Palanivel met his followers, he changed his stand. Please stop the judiciary review (application), and solve it politically. Give the members fairness and justice," he added.
"How can the issues, including social, education and economy, faced by the Indian community, be solved if this problem cannot be tackled?" he said at a press conference after visiting the Civil Defence Department headquarters here today.
Ahmad Zahid said BN would not interfere in MIC's affairs but is willing to act as an observer to oversee the fresh elections for the party's vice-presidents and central working committee posts.
