Man to hang for killing Puspen inmate

KUANTAN: A man was sentenced to the gallows by the High Court here today for killing a fellow inmate at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) in Gambang, near here, two years ago.
Judicial commissioner Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman handed the death penalty to Mohd Faizal Mohd Yusof, 29, for the murder of Mohd Wiralieyzaan Ambiah at 7.50pm on Feb 3, 2013.
In his judgment, Ab Karim said he was satisfied that the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against the accused.
Witnesses testified that the accused had strangled the victim with a white rope at Room No. 4 in Block A at Puspen.
The accused, serving a 15-year jail term for sodomy did not show any emotion when the sentence was pronounced.
He was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by DPP Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsuddin while the accused was represented by Syed Azimal Syed Abu Bakar. – Bernama
