Chew resigns as AirAsia X CFO

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X Bhd yesterday announced the resignation of Chew Eng Loke (pix) as its CFO.
The announcement came only two weeks after the long-haul, low-cost airline denied that Chew, who was appointed to the post in September last year, had resigned.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, AirAsia X said Chew is leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Chew will be replaced by Cheok Huei Shian (pix), who was CFO at AirAsia Zest in the Philippines. She was appointed to the position in May 2014 after serving as CFO at PT Indonesia AirAsia.
According to a statement yesterday, Cheok was part of the core team in the early days of AirAsia Bhd who played an instrumental role in the success of AirAsia and getting the company listed on the stock exchange.
Yesterday's announcement follows a management shakeup at AirAsia X earlier this month, which saw the departure of long-time CEO Azran Osman Rani and the appointment of co-founder Datuk Kamaruddin Meranun as group CEO. AirAsia group's head of investor relations Benyamin Ismail was named acting CEO of AirAsia X as part of the ongoing reorganisation exercise.
