GEORGE TOWN: A man who was splashed with acid by his wife is battling for his life after the corrosive liquid was found to have entered his lungs.

Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the condition of the victim was critical.

"He has lost his eyesight," he said in a press conference today after visiting the victim at the Penang Hospital.

The suspect, a Thai national, had splashed acid on the victim who was sleeping at his home in Gat Lebuh Macallum during the Feb 17 incident.

The 29-year-old suspect subsequently fled the scene after the 6.30am attack, triggering a police manhunt.

Mior said police were in touch with their Thai counterparts and are trying to trace the whereabouts of the suspect.
