KUALA LUMPUR: The police have given the nod for the proposed March 7 rally by the #KitaLawan group to proceed, but said it should be moved to a more suitable location.
The demonstration in support of jailed Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to take place in front of the Sogo shopping centre in the city, according to representatives of the group after a meeting with the police at the Dang Wangi police station.
"After the meeting with the OCPD and other officers, they have given us the green light to go ahead with our assembly. The police are now aware of the rally and we will go ahead as planned," said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
"They suggested that we should have it in a stadium, but we will have to discuss it with the other members," he said.
"The rally will still go on, and as of now, it remains in Sogo at 4pm," he added.
According to Nik Nazmi, the crowd expected to join the March 7 rally could increase as more people are becoming aware of the #KitaLawan group.
"More people are now aware of the group and the rally, after what happened to Adam Adli Abd Halim, other members and myself," he said, referring to investigations under the Sedition Act for tweets posted on the Federal Court judgement on Anwar's sodomy case.
Also present at the Dang Wangi police station today was Adam Adli, DAP Youth chief Teo Kok Seong, PAS Youth deputy secretary Mohd Faizul Mohd Salleh and PKR youth wing strategic director Akmal Nasir.
