Penang nets RM8.16b in investments after Johor, Penang

    GEORGE TOWN: Penang ranked third as the state with the highest number of investments in the country after Johor and Sarawak.
    Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said Penang recorded a total of RM8.16 billion in investments, a 109% increase from RM3.91 billion in 2013.
    Lim said RM3.04 billion was from domestic investments while foreign investments contributed RM5.11 billion.
    "Most of the investments are from the Electronic and Electric (E&E) sector and some from the Biomedical sector.
    "It shows our strong performance in the E&E sector and it is a sign of sustainable progress," he said during a press conference at his office in Komtar here today.
    Lim added that the state government would look to improve on this performance in the future.
    Meanwhile, the Penang Tech Centre Berhad also received a RM100,000 contribution from Globetronics Technology Bhd and Inari Technology Sdn Bhd for Penang's Tech Dome project in Komtar.
    Stressing on the importance of the project, Lim said it would establish Penang as a centre of excellence for Science and Technology.
