Proton Inspira recalled

28 Feb 2015 / 04:01 H.

NATIONAL carmaker Proton Holdings Berhad announced that it has initiated a recall for selected units of the Proton Inspira model. This follows a similar recall
undertaken by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) last month involving its Lancer model – the very model that the Inspira is based on. Proton states that it has initiated a special free inspection and repair campaign for all affected owners.
Proton states that the drive belt Pulley unit in Proton Inspira models manufactured between September 2010 and May 2011 may develop possible pulley wear after a certain mileage or driving conditions.
This in turn could cause premature wear and tear to the unit, and may result in battery depletion and engine overheating. Other symptoms include increased steering effort for the power steering system.
As part of the recall, Proton has already begun notifying its customers of the matter. Furthermore, Proton will cover labour and parts costs related to the issue. Proton believes that up to 5,280 units of the Inspira will be affected by this campaign.
Owners of the Inspira model manufactured within the aforementioned time frame are advised to visit their nearest authorised Proton service centre.
