SUNGAI BULOH:The supposed PKR convention, which has been changed to a gathering in solidarity for fallen Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not be seen as his personal agenda.
PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said the decision to change the convention to a gathering is made based on the common policies of PKR to fight for justice, equality, good governance and a fair judicial system.
“The imprisonment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not a just a personal issue, it happened because of damaged (judicial) system. We agreed for the convention to be turned into a solidarity gathering, and if we assemble peacefully, it is allowed by the constitution,” Azmin told the press at Kg Baru Seri Indah A, here, today.
The gathering, expected to be on March 7, will be held in front of Sogo shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur at 4pm.
“I've been informed that the organisers have already informed the police about the gathering, and we will discuss on the next course of action as we always run a safe and peaceful gathering,”.
When asked about the possibility of getting caught by the police as they stage their protests, Azmin said his main priority is to fight for justice in this country.
“It has been 15 years since we've fought, we should have no fear. We must uphold justice and the truth,” Azmin said.
Azmin added, the party leadership respected and understood the decision made by Anwar’s family to seek royal intervention against the PKR de-facto leader's conviction.
“We support the initiative taken by Anwar’s family. We must understand the feelings that the family face to this unjust sentencing. On behalf of the party, we support any effort to ensure justice is given to Anwar,” Azmin said.
When asked on who will replace Anwar as opposition leader and the candidate for Permatang Pauh, Azmin retracted the statement by saying Anwar will remain as the parliamentary opposition leader and Permatang Pauh MP.
Meanwhile, on the risk of water rationing in Selangor as the state is expected to undergo hot weather until April, Azmin said the State Economic Action Council would discuss alternative measures that will be taken to avoid water rationing.

"I want all preparations to be done earlier to face the possibility of water shortage in dams which will affect the supply of raw water to treatment plants, as well as the supply of clean water to consumers in the state.
"I don't want water rationing to be implemented like last year. So, I will look into all factors, including tighter enforcement at rivers to prevent pollution that will only cause water treatment plants to be closed," he said.
Azmin added the state government is also in the midst of completing the Hybrid off River Augmentation System(Horas) project in Kuala Selangor as an alternative to face raw water shortage.
The project is expected to be fully completed by September this year.
