PETALING JAYA: Imprisoned opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that he will attend the parliament session, which begins March 9.
PKR parliamentary whip Datuk Johari Abdul said that the invitations to attend the parliamentary session, between March 9 and April 9, and invitation to the parliament session opening ceremony by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on March 9, were received by Anwar's office last month.
"The chief secretariat to opposition leader, Abdul Malek Hussein, had responded that Anwar will be attending both this morning," he said.
The Sungai Petani MP also stated that Anwar is still the Opposition Leader and Permatang Pauh MP, as stated by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia according to Article 48 (4)(c) of the Federal Constitution.
The Article stated that a parliamentary lawmaker qualification is determined once a petition seeking a royal pardon has been completed.
Last week, Anwar's family submitted a petition seeking a royal pardon from the Agong on his sodomy conviction.
"Until the petition is finalised, Anwar still holds the position of Opposition leader and MP for Permatang Pauh," Johari said.
He also called on Pandikar to ensure that Anwar will be able to attend the coming parliamentary sitting.
"I hope that Pandikar would use his wisdom and authority as Dewan Rakyat Speaker to make the necessary arrangement for Anwar to attend and participate in the session," he said.
Johari added that he hope to arrange a meeting between Pandikar and Anwar this week before parliament convenes.
