Malaysia and Singapore affirms their commitment in defense issues

    PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Singapore today affirmed their commitment to their long-standing defence relationship between the two countries.
    This affirmation was done when Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein called on Dr Ng Eng Heng who represented Singapore.
    During their two-day meeting which ended today, both countries also affirmed the close cooperation between both militaries in non-traditional security areas, such as the recent flood efforts in Malaysia.
    Additionally, the ministers signed a letter of intent to step up cooperation between the defence establishments of both countries, and agreed to encourage more military-to-military exchanges, including intelligence, in an effort to address common security concerns such as the threat of IS to the region.
    They also affirmed on the value of the Malacca Strait Patrols (MSP) in enhancing the security of the two countries, while discussing ways to take MSP forward. Ng also reaffirmed Singapore's support for Malaysia's new initiative to enhance naval cooperation through coordinated maritime patrols within each country's own territorial waters.
    They also agreed to continue on their long-standing commitment to the Five Power Defence Arrangements, the Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus.
