KEPONG: SMK Kepong Baru reinforced its academic legacy today when the school was named among the "Best 2014 STPM Schools" in the country.
"Although we only have five students scoring straight As this year, a decrease from 13 last year, I am still very proud and happy because we managed to record a slight increase in the overall CGPA, from 3.34 in 2013 to 3.38 in 2014," said its principal Leong Kum Loy after receiving the recognition from Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC) chairman Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Noh Dalimin in a simple ceremony at MEC headquarters in Selayang.
He added that receiving the award from MEC is a major milestone and recognition for the school because it means the school is now among the best in the nation as the award is presented to schools with the highest number of students achieving straight As.
Meanwhile, Kellie T. S. Wong from SMK Raja Ali in Kuala Lumpur said she is delighted with her results.
"I did not expect to get a CGPA of 4. I am so happy that all my efforts paid off.
"I thank my teachers, who guided me throughout my studies and my parents, who gave me moral support to perform well in my exams," she said.
On her key to success, she advised students sitting for the STPM this year to study hard and study smart, to ask questions when in doubt on a topic, and not to ignore the advice and guidance of teachers.
