JACC: Hunt for MH370 will go on

KUALA LUMPUR: Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkefli Mohd Zin (pix) said today that there is no truth to reports that the search for missing MAS flight MH370 will cease in May.
"To my knowledge, there has not been any such decision made. Perhaps in May the search will be carried out in a different capacity but it will not stop. The incident still saddens me and the search must go on for the families of the passengers. Efforts have to be made with hopes of finding the missing aircraft sooner or late," he said.
On another matter, Zulkefli said former air force Major Zaidi Ahmad, who was dismissed from the military and turned witness of a lawsuit against the government by the children of a passenger of MH370, is bound by the Official Secrets Act (OSA) which prohibits him from revealing classified military information.
"He is bound by the OSA. We have nothing to hide but contents of his testimony should not put the country's security in jeopardy," he said.
Zaidi was sacked from the air force after going public about the ineffectiveness of the indelible ink used on voter during the last general elections.
Earlier, Zulkefli attended a send-off event of the military's International Monitoring Team (IMT) who will play the role of observers for the ongoing peace process between the Philippines government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Meanwhile, the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) said reports that China, Australia and Malaysia are currently discussing whether to end the search for MH370 are incorrect.
"The report is incorrect; discussions are not underway to call off the search," JACC told theSun in an email today.
Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss reportedly said in a Reuters article that the three nations are now discussing whether to discontinue the search within a few weeks' time as it can't go on forever.
The Prime Minister's Office in Australia also said that the report was an overstatement of Truss's comments.
