SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government will control the price of houses to be built in the state and will not build anymore low-cost houses.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said this was one of the essence contained in the new state housing policy that would be finalised soon.

"One of the basic contents of this housing policy is that the price of 50% of the houses to be built will be controlled by the state government.

"In this new policy, 15% of houses built must be worth RM80,000 and below, 15% must cost RM250,000 and below, another 20% must be priced below RM350,000, and 50% is up to the developer to sell at what price," he told reporters after attending a state executive council meeting at Wisma Negri, here, today.

He said developers are also required to allocate 50% for the Bumiputera quota in any housing scheme, compared to 30% previously.
"I do not want to see a housing area inhabited mostly by one race and we want to create a system or policy that brings more harmony," he said.

Under the new policy, Mohamad said the state government would not build low-cost houses with one bedroom.

"We will build affordable houses under category A, B and C which must have at least three bedrooms," he said. – Bernama
