No escape for operators violating Land Public Transport Act

PETALING JAYA: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will not hesitate to take stern action against operators or individuals who violate rules and regulations stipulated in the Land Public Transport Act.
Its enforcement chief Datuk Paduka Che Hasni Che Ahmad told reporters that following its latest enforcement operation to clampdown on operators who don't have proper permits and those who don't follow conditions set in the permit issued, the commission managed to confiscate seven vehicles (four Nissan Almera and three Toyota Camrys) belonging to a tour company for violating the conditions set in the permits issued to them.
He said that under the conditions of the permit issued to the tour company, Syarikat Hawk Rent a Car Sdn Bhd, the vehicles are only permitted to ferry tourists and cannot be used for any other purpose.
"Once we have completed the necessary investigation paperwork, we will take action against the operators or the relevant individual according to Section 41 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
"If proven guilty, the person charged could be fined up to RM500,000 or two years imprisonment or both," Che Hasni said during a press conference at the commission's enforcement office in Persada Plus today.
He revealed that since October last year, the enforcement team has confiscated a total of 39 private vehicles that were used in offering taxi-like services through different mobile applications like Uber, MyTeksi and Blacklane.
"Although we will continue with our operations in combating these irresponsible activities from the operators, I would like to advice the public to utilise only licensed public transport," he said.
