Tan Sri's son feared dead in burnt car

KUALA LUMPUR: The son of an ex-political advisor to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is feared dead following the recovery of a charred body of a man in a burnt car at Bukit Damansara today.
Police traced the razed car, a silver Perodua Myvi three hours later to the 80-year-old political advisor who is a Tan Sri and was told by the man that his 40-year-old son had left the house in the vehicle at 9am.
The Tan Sri's house was barely a kilometre from the site where the burnt car was found.
At about 10.30am, members of the Pantai Fire and Rescue department received a call from a security guard who reported spotting thick smoke billowing from a jungle at Jalan Setia Bestari.
Firemen who though it was the undergrowth in the jungle that was on fire, arrived at the scene within minutes but found a car on fire instead.
They managed to put out the blaze quickly before finding the burnt remains of a man in it.
Brickfields police chief ACP Muhd Azlee Abdullah said the car was registered under the Tan Sri who told investigators that his son had Alzheimer's disease and suffered serious bouts of dementia if he failed to take his medication.
He said although the charred body was highly likely to be that of the Tan Sri's son, a post mortem including DNA and dental tests is being carried out to determine the identity of the victim.
He said initial police investigations showed there was no foul play in the case.
Muhd Azlee said the fire and rescue department will investigate the cause of the fire.
