GEORGE TOWN: A lovely Malay-Chinese couple was spotted taking part in the mandarin orange throwing ceremony during Chap Goh Meh celebration tonight at the Esplanade.
Nor Hasimah, 37, who came to the celebration together with her boyfriend, Yeap Swee Tatt, 32, said she was excited to witness the celebration for herself.
"As my boyfriend is of Chinese descent, I have the opportunity to have a closer look at the richness of the Chinese culture. I also believe that by taking part in this event, the spirit of 1Malaysia is being practised regardless of race and religion," she said.
Another Penangite, Joanne Ang, 20, travelled to the island with her boyfriend to share in the excitement.
She said she believes writing down all her wishes on the mandarin orange sincerely and then throwing it into the sea will fulfil her wishes.
"I hope that my relationship with my boyfriend will be strengthened in the years to come," she said, adding that this is her third time joining in the fun.
