Cops seeking group that slashed man in Weld Quay

    GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old man suffered injuries to his hands and face after he was attacked by a group of armed men early this morning in Weld Quay.

    Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash said the victim was with a friend when he was confronted by the group of around seven persons during the 3.15am incident.

    He said a scuffle ensued when one of the suspects suddenly pulled out a parang and slashed the victim.

    He said the victim tried fending off the attacks which only ended when the friend came to his aid.

    He said the victim was taken to the Penang Hospital for treatment before lodging a police report.

    "The victim knew four of this attackers and we have identified the suspects," he said in a press conference after anti-crime rounds in Komtar here.

    The case is being investigated for possessing missiles or weapons at riot under the Penal Code.
