KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been invited by Uzbekistan to be an observer at its presidential election on March 29.

Senate deputy president Datuk Doris Sophia Brodi said she and three other delegates would represent Malaysia at Uzbekistan's election, the third since the latter's independence in 1991.

"We feel honoured by the invitation, which will further cement bilateral relations between both countries that had been nurtured since 1992," she told reporters today.

Earlier, she received a courtesy call from Uzbekistan Ambassador to Malaysia, Murad Askarov at the temporary parliament block here.

She cited national oil and gas company, Petronas' investments in Uzbekistan and the 4,000 Uzbekistan students pursuing higher education in Malaysia as among the fruits of the bond between both countries. – Bernama
