More than meets the eye

SCOTTISH-INDIAN Amelia Thripura Henderson has always had the ability to grab your attention, and hold it. It was an inherent talent that caused her to get spotted at a shopping centre at the early age of one, and it is a power that she now – at the age of 20 – wields consciously, and extremely effectively.
Henderson is a well known actress, dancer, model and emcee. She is currently pursuing her A-levels at Taylors College Sri Hartamas, working her weekend DJ gig at Mix.fm and hosting Wednesday's Myeg Daily on Astro Supersport, all while balancing her other commitments.
Despite her celebrity status and well-honed selfie skills, Henderson remains completely down to earth and is as unassuming as a person as gorgeous as she can be.
Her strong online presence on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and her website www.ameliath.com, combined with her charming wit make her easily accessible to her many fans.
What are you proudest of?
Probably the fact that I'm a Mensan because it requires brains and doesn't just depend on the way I look. It's awfully superficial because a lot of the things I do require me to just stand there and smile – which is fun and something I love doing, but it's not something that I can be terribly proud of because at the end of the day,make-up is going to fade, but your intelligence won't.

What do you hope to achieve this year?
I definitely need to finish my A-levels... with my sanity intact. I also hope to return to acting this year.So far I've been doing a lot of emceeing and modelling and stuff like that, but not a lot of acting
which is my first love and I definitely want to get back to that.
How do you juggle your insane schedule?
I don't. You just got to do it lah. I make my time as full as I possibly can and then I just go through it all. I don't even really think about how I'm going through everything, I just do.
What do people wrongly assume about you?
I think people who know me in real life know that I'm a little bit more intelligent... Not more than the average person but definitely with some brains behind my smile; and that I can actually think.
Another big one is that I'm not Malaysian. And that I cannot speak Bahasa Malaysia. Which is very untrue because I was born and raised here, and I speak Bahasa fluently.

What's different between who you really are and the person the public sees?
There isn't a lot that is very different to be honest, because I know a lot of people within the industry who are completely different on their social media platforms and when I meet them, I've always felt that that's something really sad.
Because for me, I know that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life – I couldn't possibly not be true to myself because then I would essentially have to spend the rest of my life faking it, and I really don't want to do that.
So I think who I am on social media and on TV is very similar to who I am in real life, just maybe a little more cleaned up and
presentable.
Because in real life, I have days when I don't really want to wear make-up, and I just want to go around looking like a hobo. But obviously when it's TV you can't do that, so I feel like that's the only real difference: in real life I'm extremely low-key but I have to glam up for events.
