Public parking lots not for reservation

BUTTERWORTH: The Seberang Prai Municipal Council has warned the public not to “reserve” parking lots by placing empty bottles on the space.
Councilor Tan Chee Teong said the council had sent officers to remove the bottles but irresponsible people would replace them after the enforcement team left.
He said fines will be issued to those who were caught red-handed doing so on parking spots to “book” them.
“The council can issue fines of up to RM500 under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 for this offence,” he said when contacted on the matter today.
The issue cropped up after theSun was contacted by salesman Norhairol Azril Abdul Halim, 36, who complained he faced such a situation in Jalan Taman Delima where someone dumped rubbish on his car when he removed the bottles and parked at the space.
He said his car was also scratched in a separate incident and has avoided the area since to avoid further damage to his car.
“I suspect there are other victims too,” he said, urging the authorities to act against such behaviours.
