GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained four men believed to be members of Gang 36 and also seized two guns and 18 live ammunition in connection with the killing of businessman E. Selvakumar, 51, in Jalan Scotland on March 2.
Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the four suspects, believed to be on their way to Kuala Lumpur, were detained at the Sungai Perak rest area at around 5.50pm on Saturday.
He said the suspects did not put up a fight when police arrested them and one of the men has since admitted to being involved in the fatal shooting.
Following further investigations, he said investigators found the murder weapon at his house in Taman Bistari, Nibong Tebal, a few hours later.
Abdul Rahim said the seized guns are believed to have been used to commit the crime.
"We believe this case has been solved with the arrest of the suspects aged between 20 and 30, " he said at a press conference in Northeast district police headquarters in Jalan Patani today.
Also present were state CID chief SAC Datuk Mazlan Kesah and district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid.
He said two of the suspects have previous drugs and criminal records.
Abdul Rahim added they will be remanded until Thursday for further investigations for murder under the Penal Code and unlawful possession of firearms under the Firearms Act.
In early March, Selvakumar was shot dead in his car when two men on a motorcycle approached the victim and fired several shots at the side window and windscreen.
