GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has urged Barisan Nasional (BN) to make its stand on PAS's move to implement Hudud in Kelantan.
He said Umno has yet to make its stand on the matter, especially with 12 Umno Kelantan assemblymen supporting the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) at the Kelantan state Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
"They need to state whether they are supporting or not such move, he said after attending the Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge today."
He was commenting on the call by former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Musa Hitam in a news portal on Saturday that Umno need to take its stand on the hudud law.
The former deputy premier had ticked the party for their slow response on the issue as he stated that the Islamic law is not suitable for the country.
On Thursday, Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob had tabled the amendment which was passed unanimously at the state assembly. The vote was passed unanimously by 44 assemblymen made up of 31 from PAS, 12 from Umno and another from PKR.
Meanwhile, in BUTTERWORTH, MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said the party was alongside with MCA and Gerakan against the implementation of hudud law.
He said MIC will not support the law which contravenes the Federal Constitution.
"I will issue a press statement on this issue after the Dewan Rakyat session," he told reporters after attending a high-tea session with party members.
