KUALA LUMPUR: The tech industry is still largely unclear over the implementation and mechanics of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) due to come into force in just over a week.
Speaking at its GST training session, Sage Software Sdn Bhd managing director Michael Cho said the key problems faced by business owners is a lack of knowledge on GST as well as misinformation on it implementation.
Cho said most of the questions arising from the training session was related to function-specific and software related questions.
"Some customers have yet to update their businesses to full GST compliance," said Cho whose company provides a range of management software and services for SMEs.
He said with the implementation of GST barely a week away, most businesses should be able to perform basic tasks like implementing the relevant software and going through several testing rounds, however he said this was not the case.
"By and large the market is inundated by people requiring assistance, with contradicting responses all around," he said.
Cho said businesses need to remain on track, adding that Sage has set up a comprehensive do-it-yourself page on its website: www.sage.com in order to support its customers.
