GEORGETOWN: The Penang state government has urged developers not to force buyers of affordable homes, to also buy renovation packages.
Penang Housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said developers cannot force the home purchasers to buy the packages.
He said developers involved can only offer the packages but cannot coerce home buyers into purchasing them.
"Renovation packages are optional," he said at a press conference today.
He was commenting on this after being informed that Chinese dailies had reported on Wednesday, that there are hidden costs in the purchase of affordable housing in the state.
He urged the developers to follow the guidelines of prescribed price and size, and not impose any additional burden on the buyers.
Jagdeep also called upon the purchasers to forward their grouses to the Housing Department under his jurisdiction, if such a matter arises.
"We will look into it, " he assured.
