KUALA LUMPUR: The police today arrested PKR vice-president Mohd Rafizi Ramli under the Sedition Act to help in the investigation into an allegedly seditious statement he had made on the social media recently.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed the arrest and said it was related to a statement Mohd Rafizi had allegedly made inviting supporters to free Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, now in jail on a sodomy conviction.

"He (Mohd Rafizi) was arrested at 3pm at his office in Pandan Prima, and an application for his remand would be made tomorrow," he said when contacted.

The Federal Court had upheld a Court of Appeal decision sentencing Anwar to five years in jail after finding him guilty of having sodomised his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bahari Azlan, in 2008. – Bernama
