Khairy: MCMC must take stern action against news portal for making false report

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should take stern action against a news portal for making a false report about the Conference of Rulers on March 25.

UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the news portal reported that the Conference of Rulers rejected the proposal to amend the federal constitution to enable the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan was rude and irresponsible.

"The Keeper of the Rulers Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad yesterday made a police report denying the Conference of Rulers issued a statement on the matter," he said in a statement, here today.

The MCMC should take immediate action against the news portal as it affects the credibility of the Conference of Rulers which is the symbol and umbrella of Islam in this country.
"The failure of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commmission to bring the case to court will adversely affect the good name of the Conference of Rulers."

Khairy said although UMNO Youth fully supports the freedom of the press, there should be a limit as the freedom is not absolute.
    
"When the report by the news portal has been denied by the Conference of Rulers, there must be firm action so that it is not repeated by other parties or by other news organisations," he added. – Bernama
