Azmin: PKR headquarters raid illegal

PETALING JAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today condemned as "illegal and unwarranted" the police raid on its headquarters here.
Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is PKR deputy president, said the party holds the home minister and Inspector-General of Police responsible for the raid and demands for the harassment against the opposition to stop.
"It is unconstitutional and a gross abuse of power and amounts to an attack on the opposition collectively," Azmin said in a statement issued today.
Six policemen had taken Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli in handcuffs to the headquarters today and broke the door to his office.
Rafizi consented for the police to break the door as none of the staff had the keys to his office and they seized four computers, one circular and one media statement, both dated March 23.
Rafizi, who is PKR vice-president and secretary-general, was arrested under the Sedition Act on Friday, a day after he had issued a statement urging members of PKR to attend the #KitaLawan rally in Kuala Lumpur.
"We also condemn the manner in which PAS leaders Mohamed Sabu and Khalid Samad were arrested. Deploying men in balaclava masks to arrest them in the middle of the night as if they were terrorists is completely uncalled for and smacks of police intimidation," he added.
