KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar in line with most emerging Asian currencies as the greenback strengthened on expectations for an imminent US interest hike.
At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.7090/7130 versus the greenback compared with 3.6830/6870 on Friday.
A dealer said the dollar was broadly higher against major currencies lifted by investors' renewed expectations of a US interest hike later this year.
US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's comments last Friday hinted at a gradual increase in US interest rates, he said.
The ringgit also closed lower against other major currencies.
It fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.6990/7029 from 2.6844/6883 on Friday and was lower against the yen at 3.0983/1024 from 3.0830/0874 previously.
The ringgit eased against the British pound to 5.5053/5134 from Friday's 5.4586/4663 and weakened against the euro to 4.0283/0334 from 3.9854/9901 previously. – Bernama
