PUTRAJAYA: Start adopting a healthy living lifestyle or the nation will face a major public health crisis soon.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said there is a major health crisis looming if everyone is adamant at not changing their daily lifestyle.
"If you still insist on not adopting a healthier lifestyle, the nation will soon face a health crisis.
"This is because most of the major health issues such as diabetes, heart attack, and high blood pressure are on the rise recently, hence, it is important for us to start adopting a healthy living lifestyle," he said during the launch of FitMalaysia programme today.
FitMalaysia is a nationwide movement jointly organised by the Public Service Department with the objective of increasing awareness among civil servants while looking to produce a more healthy and active civil servant.
Khairy hoped that through this maiden programme, Malaysia could move towards a sporting nation instead of continuing to be a sports loving nation or sporting fans nation.
"The approach undertaken by FitMalaysia is more towards 'community centric' where one does not need any facilities or special equipment.
"Most of its activities can be done easily, anywhere and anytime whether you are alone or with a group of people," he added.
During the launch, Khairy handed over a RM200,000 sports development grant from his ministry to JPA Club.
