Accomplices of dead robber nabbed

    KUALA LUMPUR: Accomplices of a dead robber who was killed in a daring heist they pulled off at a shopping mall in Taman Maluri, Cheras here last month were arrested in a police operation today.
    The joint-operation between city police and the elite federal police Special Task Force On Organized Crime (Stafoc) led to the arrest of four men and a woman in several raids.
    Kuala Lumpur police CID chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said police received their first break into the case on Tuesday when they arrested a 27-year-old man in Sungai Buloh at 5pm.
    He said the suspect's arrest led police to three other men at separate locations in Gombak between 3pm and 6pm today.
    He said a woman who is the wife of a suspect was also detained to assist in investigations.
    Zainuddin said the men also had previous criminal records for armed robbery and kidnapping.
    He said the suspects who are aged between 24 and 28 will be remanded tomorrow for further investigations.
    He said police are also on the hunt for three others who were part of the gang and are at large.
    Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in a Twitter message congratulated his personnel on their success in busting the gang.
    On March 9, four robbers in a stolen car rammed the vehicle into a moneychangers outlet at the Aeon shopping centre in Taman Maluri before holding up staff with parangs.
    An armed security guard who spotted the commotion, whipped out his pistol and fired several gunshots at the robbers, killing one of them on the spot.
    Startled by the gunshots, the remaining robbers took to their heels empty-handed, escaping on foot and on a motorcycle they had parked at the mall earlier.
