Mara to act against private college in Penang

MEDAN: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will take legal action against a private college in Penang which it alleged, had failed to pay for the fees of 115 Mara sponsored students at a university in Sumatera.
Its chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Mara would not compromise on any misappropriation as the college had already been paid for the twinning-programme students.
Allegedly because of the college's weak financial management, the students were not able to receive their respective transcripts and degrees despite having completed their clinical training in Malaysian hospitals.
"Mara is studying the various aspects including from the legal perspective and other specific claims against the private college for violating its contract with Mara," he said.
He told reporters this after settling the outstanding fees and presentation of degrees to the 115 medical graduates at the university.
He said Mara decided to settle the arrears directly with the university to avoid further setbacks hindering the graduates from starting their medical practice.
Annuar said Mara was forced to use its funds for the purpose, to protect the country's image and interest of the students.
