Anwar attends father's funeral

KAJANG: Some 250 people, including members of the public, paid their last respects to Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, father of imprisoned opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who passed away at 1.45am today at Serdang Hospital.
However, all eyes were on Anwar, the former Permatang Pauh MP, who came for the funeral at his father's house here around 10.45am.
Dressed in a white garb and partially covering his head in a white kopiah, he emerged from a massive van and was escorted by Prisons Department personnel carrying firearms.
Anwar appeared calm and hugged his family members who greeted him on his arrival.
His ninth youngest sister, Farizon Ibrahim, told theSun that her father passed away peacefully without feeling any pain.
"He had been bedridden for the past six years but wasn't sick," she said.
Earlier at 8am, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former primer minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad came to pay their respects.
Mahathir's wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali arrived separately.
Also present was Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
PAS was represented by its deputy president Mohamad Sabu and DAP by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
Ibrahim was buried after Zohor prayers at Sungai Ramal Muslim cemetery.
When met by the press, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said: "On behalf of the party, I'd like to thank both the Prisons Department and the Home Minister for allowing him (Anwar) to visit his father."
Anwar is currently serving a five-year prison term after the Federal Court upheld a Court of Appeal decision convicting him of sodomising his former aide.
