Residents forced to move out after landslip

SHAH ALAM: Residents living along Jalan Plumbum 7/101A in Section 7 here are forced to move out by Wednesday following a landslip in the area last Thursday night.
Petaling District Officer Datuk Mohd Misri Idris said that the residents living in the area are required to move out in efforts to allow the authorities to cut water and electricity supplies and carry out detailed inspection on the landslip, which has caused massive craters.
The residents can opt to temporary live in any of the PKNS (Selangor State Development Corporation) houses that were identified or units of their choice which the company will bear the cost.
"We cannot compromise on their safety," he told reporters this after a close door meeting between PKNS and the residents here today.
Up to date, three of the 12 families have moved out of the housing area, and are living in a nearby hotel.
Mohd Misri said initial investigations revealed that the soil erosion was caused by soil instability and construction works in the area, which was compounded with the high rainfall on the day of the incident.
It was reported that the area has been declared a "disaster zone" following the landslip, which led to a portion of a retaining wall behind the houses to collapse.
Mohd Misri was also reported saying that remedial works could take up to four months.
