KANGAR: Some 96 vehicle owners were nabbed for littering while driving, from January to March this year, said Perlis Solid Waste And Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) director Zaidi Tuah.
He said SWCorp, formerly known as Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (PPSPPA), had submitted the registration numbers of the vehicles to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for further action.
"Notice of the offence will be sent to owners of the vehicles detected. For first time offenders they will be given a warning and advice. Court action will be taken for the following offences," Zaidi told reporters after a briefing on recycling of kitchen waste at Hotel Putra Palace here, today.
The programme was jointly organised by Perlis SWCorp and the hotel for principals and teachers of primary and secondary schools throughout Perlis.
Zaidi added that drivers caught littering while driving on the road could be prosecuted under the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 which carries a fine of between RM10,000 to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years or both, if convicted. – Bernama
