LANGKAWI: Langkawi police are taking preventive measures to ensure no untoward incident occurs during the Asean Summit 2015 retreat which begins on April 27.
Its police chief, Supt Harrith Kam Abdullah, said the measures include raising the level of security at the venue of the summit which will be attended by all Asean heads of government, and intensifying marine patrols in the vicinity of the island.
“We are prepared, as far as providing security for the event is concerned, as well as escorting the VVIPs, and providing other prevention measures to contain any issue that might arise,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters today at a mass blood donation campaign held in conjunction with the 208th Police Day celebrations.
According to Harrith Kam, although the Asean Summit will not be the first international event that the police are dealing with, they will not rest on their laurels to ensure the smooth running of the event.
“We may be fresh from hosting the Lima (Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition) which went on without any major incident but we are keeping up with our surveillance, come this summit,” he said. – Bernama
