KOTA BELUD: Sabah and Sarawak will continue to be a 'fixed deposit' for Barisan Nasional (BN) under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's leadership, according to a local Umno leader.
Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said, who is also Umno Sabah deputy liaison chairman opined that the people in the two states in Borneo felt Najib was a prime minister who understood their needs.
In fact, he said, Najib had openly acknowledged Sabah and Sarawak as partners in the formation of Malaysia by allowing Sept 16 to be declared a public holiday.
"Taking this point into consideration, we are confident that Sabah and Sarawak would remain as a fixed deposit for BN under Najib's leadership," he said in a statement here today.
He also dismissed former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's contention that the BN would lose in the next general election based on the situation in Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Salleh who is also Kota Belud Umno chief said his division would continue to give its undivided support to the prime minister to lead the country and party.
"For us, Najib is a leader who is capable of fulfilling the requirements and aspirations of the people and steering Malaysia towards a high income status by 2020," he said. – Bernama
