IAMM to host exhibition showcasing Islam in Venezuela

KUALA LUMPUR: Focusing on one of the cornerstones of the Venezuelan constitution – religious and cultural freedom, Islamic Art Museum Malaysia (IAMM) will host a photo exhibition aiming to visualise the presence of Islam in Venezuela.
Supported by the Tourism and Culture Ministry, Ambassador of the Republic of Venezuela to Malaysia Manuel Guzman said the exhibition will serve as a platform for Malaysians to learn more about Venezuela's rich culture and catch a glimpse of Muslim communities in that country.
"It is our belief that art is an important pillar for acceptance of cultural diversity, social cohesion and sustainable development of the society.
"Hence, IAMM, as one of the most recognised art institution in this country, is the perfect venue to showcase Venezuela's cultural diversity, as museums help the people to see the world differently – educating us, and challenging our views and opinions," he told reporters during the launch of the exhibition themed "Honour Kalbhi – Muslim Communities in Venezuela" today.
To be held until May 31, the exhibition is a collection of photographs by Venezuela-Syrian photographer Laila Saab Chemekh that capture the world of Arab-Muslim women in the Venezuelan context.
