SHAH ALAM: A lecturer of a public university, whose wife runs a restaurant, has been released on bail over an offence related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Shah Alam High Court senior assistant registrar Syajaratudur Abd Rahman decided to release the 34-year-old lecturer on bail instead of remanding him, saying he was committed to his job at the university.

Customs investigating officer Abdul Hadi Ismail said the lecturer was arrested at the restaurant in Setia Alam yesterday after he allegedly issued a receipt without the required GST identification.

He was the first individual in Selangor to be held over such an offence, he said.

"At the time of his arrest, the lecturer's wife was not in the restaurant," he told reporters. – Bernama
