Man charged with cheating 18 individuals to 'collect donations'

    KUALA LUMPUR: A man pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court here today to 18 counts of cheating involving RM610 early this month.
    Hoo Kok Kai, 20, was accused to have deceived 18 individuals into believing that he was collecting donations for a charity home, Lovely Disabled Home, when in reality he was never appointed by the home management to do so.
    He was alleged to have committed the offence at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Segambut, Jalan Segambut, Sentul here from 7.30am to 2pm between April 6 and 8.
    The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping and and/or fine, upon conviction.
    Hoo also pleaded not guilty to a charge of making false statement when he claimed that he was the representative appointed by Lovely Disabled Home to collect donations.
    Hoo was alleged to have committed the offence at Sri Damansara police station, Petaling Jaya here at 12.17pm on March 11.
    For that offence, he shall be liable to a maximum imprisonment of three years and fine of convicted under Section 199 of the Penal Code.
    Magistrate Nur'Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor allowed Hoo bail of RM10,000 in one surety for all charges and set May 25 for remention. – Bernama
