GEORGE TOWN: Police busted a drug processing laboratory, arresting three individuals, including a man and his wife, and seized drugs worth RM2.7 million during raids at separate locations on the mainland on Wednesday night.
Penang state police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said state Narcotics Department personnel raided and smashed the lab ring in Bukit Mertajam, Central Seberang Perai district, and detained the trio in a house at about 11pm.
He said the suspects were aged between 47 and 50 and one of them had a drug-related criminal record.
"We seized 3,760g of WY drug powder, 3,500g of meth oil, 1,787g of syabu, 1,040g of heroin, 41g of ketamine, an air gun, and drug processing tools," he said at a press conference accompanied by state Narcotics Department chief Supt Guan Beng Kang in state police headquarters in Jalan Penang, here, today.
He said the seized drugs were meant for distribution in the northern region and the suspects were believed to be processing drugs for the last six months.

Following further questioning, Abd Rahim said, investigators raided another house in Simpang Ampat, South Seberang Perai, at about 3am and discovered another 21g of syabu and 40 ecstacy pills.
Four cars and cash, all worth RM150,000 in total, were also confiscated during both raids.
The three suspects have been remanded until next Tuesday to assist in investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Firearms Act.
