GEORGE TOWN: DAP today marked the first anniversary of the passing of party veteran Karpal Singh.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said that Karpal, also the party's former national chairman, pushed the party's profile and advanced the cause for justice, freedom and democracy.
He said Karpal was a respected figure who cared for others and had a unique gift of making people feel valued.
"Malaysia is clearly poorer without Karpal," he said in a press statement today.
He said Karpal was also loyal to his old comrades especially towards Lim Kit Siang, Dr Chen Man Hin and other party members.
"I miss Karpal the leader, the mentor and the person who not only gave hope but inspired us with the optimism to hang on tightly to our principles.
"Most of all I miss his indomitable spirit to simply carry on, no matter that the odds are never in your favour, " he said, adding that Karpal will always be remembered.
On Apr 17 last year, Karpal and his aide Michael Cornelius was killed in a car accident along the North-South Expressway near Gua Tempurung, Perak.
