KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is intensifying efforts to keep the capital city neat and tidy as part of the preparation for the 26th Asean Summit scheduled to be held here next week.

Its director-general Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Aziz said they would also improve the level of cleanliness around the capital city, as well as all venues and main roads involved, with the cooperation from Alam Flora.

"Public toilets will constantly be monitored to ensure that they are clean and conveniently usable," he told Bernama when contacted here today.

Mohd Amin Nordin said he had also instructed the DBKL's landscape division to add more flowering trees and to repaint old buildings to beautify the city.

"DBKL has also asked the management of North-South Expressway and the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) to clean up the expressways for the convenience of the users," he said.
The 26th edition of the Asean Summit is scheduled to be held from April 24 to 27 in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.

Malaysia is chairing Asean in 2015 after taking over from Myanmar, at an important time where the establishment of the Asean Community is scheduled by the end of this year.

Malaysia has assumed the Chair of Asean for 2015, the year the grouping has pledged to achieve the Asean Economic Community.

Themed "Our People, Our Community, Our Vision", Malaysia's vision throughout the chairmanship is the creation of a "people-oriented ASEAN" involving all sectors of society in the grouping's activities. – Bernama
